Turnabout is Fair Play
I've done numerous articles here about various ways in which the Virtual worlds we work and play in have begun emulating the Real world.  Well it seems the Real world isn't about to be out-done by some digital reality, and has decided that what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

That's right boys and girls, the Real world has begun to copycat the Virtual world.

To be more specific, some businesses have taken some pages from the organizational and motivational solutions found in MMORPG's and added them to their own business manuals.  Check it out HERE.  Work groups are being treated like guilds, assignments presented as "Quests", and that's just the small stuff.

Get this - they're actually creating virtual currency and experience points that workers earn by completing tasks.  This currency and experience can be used in a number of ways, such as enhancing personal office space.  It also makes possible company-wide "leaderboards" which clearly define where each employee falls in relation to others.  Leading employees and "guilds" enjoy perks such as being able to get the best assignments ("quests").

In short, this model allows companies to create a workplace environment that is signicantly more merit-based than most traditional company models.

It makes me wonder... just how much more "real world" do the games have to get, and how much more "game-like" does the real world have to get before there really isn't any difference between the two anymore?
